ERC Consolidator Grant project PALEOCHAR is geared at the investigation of Neanderthal fireplaces at a microscopic and molecular scale to advance our understanding of Late Pleistocene paleoenvironments and Neanderthal behavior. The project is based at Universidad de La Laguna, Tenerife, and is currently inviting applications for postdoctoral positions and fully funded PhD fellowships.

PhD Fellowships (2 openings) :
 Investigating Microscopic and Molecular Charred Matter to Understand Neanderthal Contexts
Application deadline is February 1, 2016.

Postdoctoral positions :
 Investigating Compositional and Diagenetic Aspects of Charred Matter
 Exploring Instrumental Analysis of Charred Matter from Resin-impregnated Archaeological Sediment Blocks and Thin Sections
 Investigating Molecular Fingerprints and Aromaticity of Archaeological Charred Matter Through Electrical Conductivity
