The Faculty of Arts & Philosophy invites applications for the full-time position of professor in the rank of Lecturer (Tenure Track system) in the Department of Archaeology, taking effect on October 1, 2014.

Responsibilities will include academic teaching, research and service in the field of Ancient Near Eastern Archaeology, from the Neolithic to the beginnings of Islam.

Profile
 on the day of application, candidates are required to hold a PhD with a doctoral thesis (or equivalent thereof) in Archaeology ;
 candidates are required to have at least two years of postdoctoral experience on the day of commencement ;
 candidates are required to have research experience in the field of Ancient Near Eastern Archaeology (from the Euphrates to the Indus, from the Caucasus to North-Eastern and South-Eastern Arabia), as is evident from fieldwork, contributions to international conferences and publications in books and/or peer reviewed journals ;
 candidates should be able to teach courses in Ancient Near Eastern Archaeology ;
 teaching experience will be considered an asset ;
 candidates are required to possess the necessary didactic, organizational and communicative skills for teaching in an academic context ;
 an international ‘profile’ gained, for instance, through participation in research programmes at institutions other than one’s own, will be considered an asset.
 expertise and experience in research into material culture, sites, or landscapes, will be considered an asset ;
 a willingness to organize fieldwork and the ability to obtain the requisite funding will be considered an asset.
