Pivoting Impression
Action of impressing with a linear tool using a tilting movement applied at either or both ends.
The different types of pivoting impression result from the combination of one or 2 swivel(s) stamped within the motif:
nA modality;
A+B modality: this modality may be simple (A+B simple) or complex (repeated and arranged in an interrelated manner that creates a motif);
nA+B modality;
nA+nB modality.
Pivoting Impression nA
A sequence of impressions where one end of the tool (A) remains pressed onto a single spot (swivel) while the tool’s active section advances along a semi-circular (or circular) course around this spot.
See the Motifs - Pivoting impression nA
Pivoting Impression A+B
The tool’s active section is impressed with a tilting movement applied from A end to B end, then swivelled at B end and impressed until A end, and so on.
See the Motifs - Pivoting impression A+B
Pivoting Impression A+B complex
Complex forms of A+B pivoting impression include:
with a double-pronged comb -> A+B return ( = “return technique”);
with a multi-toothed comb -> A+B leiterband ( = “leiterband technique”)
with a spatula -> A+B fishnet ( = “fishnet structure”).
Such combinations [technique x form (modality)] will be named after the first published description.
See the Motifs - Pivoting impression A+B complex
Pivoting Impression nA+B
A sequence of pivoting stamps around swivel A, with the last impression a pivoting movement around swivel B and then another sequence of pivoting stamps around swivel A, etc.
Pivoting Impression nA+nB
Concatenation of a sequence of pivoted impressions at the instrument’s A end and a sequence of pivoting impressions at B end, uninterrupted by the change of the resting point. See the Motifs - Pivoting impression nA+nB
