Simple Impression
Action of pressing the tool for decoration on the surface of the raw ceramic vessel wall without damaging it.
Different simple impressions derive from a change in the angle of the tool during the impressing process.
The perpendicular simple impression: the tool’s active section is perpendicular to the surface to be impressed.
The oblique simple impression: The tool’s active section is perpendicular to the surface to be impressed.
The simple impression can be repeated to produce different types of motifs: spot (arrangement of elements more or less organized on a restricted surface), lines (line, arc or sinusoid of elements) or covering of wider surfaces (evenly or unevenly arranged etc.).
Among the linear motifs which can be created, we identified a complex modality of the repeated simple impression: the alternate repeated impression (see definition and experimentation).
