This conference is organized by Francesca Lugli and Stefano Biagetti, for the Italian Society for Ethnoarchaeology (AIE). Funded in 1997 by Francesca Lugli, Alessandra Assunta Stoppiello, and Massimo Vidale, the AIE is a non-profit organization, whose aim is to foster the development and diffusion of ethnoarchaeology in Italy and abroad. Its members have been running ethnoarchaeological research in Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, Cameroon, Nepal, Pakistan, Australia, Russia, and Mongolia. The AIE organized five conferences so far.

Ethnoarchaeology is a widespread research strategy for bridging the present and the past. It holds a very special position in the process of reconstructing the past, since it allows archaeologists to build frames of reference from the ethnographic present to explore, test, and infer about past phenomena. Ethnoarchaeologists strive in the present. We learn from contemporary societies, exploring the nuances of current human behaviors in search of more refined and varied models to enhance our interpretive tools. [...]
