Post Doctoral Research Associate in Palaeolithic Archaeology and Radiocarbon dating

[Emplois, bourses, prix, stages]

3 years to start as soon as possible
London : University College

Applications are invited for a Research Associate post available initially for 3 years to start as soon as possible, working on the European Research Council funded UP-NORTH project led by Dr Rhiannon Stevens at the UCL Institute of Archaeology. The project explores relationships between climate change and human behaviour during the last deglaciation, specifically, the recolonisation of northern Europe that occurred during this period of rapid climate change and instability.

The post-holder will work as part of a team to examine the relationship between climates, human dispersal, technological diversification and development at this time. They will be responsible for co-ordinating and overseeing the radiocarbon dating component of the UP-NORTH project and will work closely with the PI and UP-NORTH collaborator Prof. T. Higham at the Oxford Radiocarbon Accelerator Unit, University of Oxford, to select and analyse suitable samples for AMS dating. The post-holder will undertake Bayesian modelling of the results.

The post-holder will collaborate closely with colleagues undertaking isotope and DNA analyses, undertake collaborative assessment and analysis of results, and disseminate the project findings through conference presentations, peer-reviewed publications and other relevant media.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline and a good knowledge of European Upper Palaeolithic archaeology.
Experience of laboratory based research would be advantageous.
