Workshop on the development of an international standard for 3D archaeological data

[Congrès, colloques, réunions]

24 & 25 mai 2012
Gand

The workshop is a collaboration between the research group on cartography and GIS (Ghent University) and the Centre de Recherche en Sciences et Techniques de l’Information et de Communication (University of Reims).

Goal
The goal of this workshop is to reflect on and discuss the possibility of developing a comprehensive international standard which would facilitate the exchange and modeling of archaeological data (both movable and immovable objects) and enable fully fledged 3D spatio-temporal analyses in archaeology. Therefore, we would like to bring together researchers and experts from the fields of archaeology, informatics and geosciences. The idea is to limit the number of participants to more or less 20 invited persons, to allow for constructive and open discussions. We would precede the discussion sessions with a couple of short presentations on some general topics (e.g. related and possibly useful standards and data models, the archaeologist’s point of view).
